In today's digital world, what manner of discretion do you apply? How do you decide, absorb, copy, share, block, or delete? As an adult, this is not an easy task if your values are not solidified and your interests are varied, or you seek lots of different kinds of information.
Now consider how difficult it is for children, who have such limited experience, such limited exposure, such limited development and such innocence of their world. This innocence must be gently and lovingly brought into the harsh realities of this modern world. And their eyes are now given to digital influences that are so severe that some choose to end their precious lives before they have even begun. This is tragic.
Their ability to comprehend complex matters must not be diluted into fragments of discord, bits of blame and accusation, shreds of guilt and despair. The children need to have their tender minds protected, they need to have wise and reasoned parents and teachers bring their experience and love into the classrooms of each and every child.
Yet, as Dave discusses here in this interview, there is reluctance to have transparency in our schools. There is protection of materials that are divisive, accusatory, and full of unjust guilt. In this interview, beginning at the 15:00 minute mark, Dave discusses his efforts with the Aiken County Public School Board in Aiken, South Carolina. he gives much praise and support to the School Board, but is steadfast in his approach to gaining full exposure of the curriculum and lesson plans, and even the actual teaching being done in the classrooms.
According to Dave, the purpose of his efforts is to encourage unity, to bring commonality of values, to gender mutual compassion and empathy, and to allow our citizens to all share in our children's educations. But sometimes these best intentions call for a strong approach, such as repeated efforts, and multiple attempts. Listen as Dave describes his sense of loneliness and lack of support. And still, he is moving into new efforts, buoyed by those who he does not even know, those who support him yet remain nameless and faceless to him. They are also fighting for unity in his sea of division.
Until next time...De Opresso Liber.
